Unhappy cylinder 2 missfire code but no missfire

I drive a 1997 dodge ram 1500 5.9 magnum. The other day I installed a oil cooler on my truck my truck and immediately took it to the freeway. during this time frame I had to pull over to the side of the road, when I went to get back onto the freeway I slammed the pedal and when the rpm's reached 4,000rpm it felt like all power was lost. engine was still screaming but it was like my transmission went into neutral then it shifted upwards and jerked forward. After this my check engine light came on blinking at me. I pulled over and no leaks and engine was running fine. I chucked it up as a air bubble working its way through the transmission from the cooler. When I scanned it the next day I had a cylinder two miss fire code. I wiped the code and and started doing test to feel the miss fire and throw the code again. Truck does not miss fire at low rpm, it drives smooth and doesn't chug or wobble at all. I even tried romping it up again 3,000+ rpm and didn't throw the code again. I guess my question is could a air bubble in the transmission cause these side effects? It only acted this way after I installed the oil cooler and only acted like it lost power once. I'm not normally hard on my truck, The highest rpm's my truck normally gets up to is 2500rpm. I also recently installed two new motor heads, transmission, rebuild transfer case, and all new timing chain and gears.

Still have the stock crank position sensor in there? Aftermarket? The CEL flashing when you were romping on it is telling you the engine is misfiring. Since it was only on one cylinder, I wouldn't worry about it over much.... Whens the last time you did a tune-up?

From what I remember the position sensors are all stock at least to my knowledge. I did a tune up on the truck around 10,000 miles ago. And I romped the truck up multiple times after wiping the code to try and make it return and it won't repeat what I felt on the freeway.

It will behave differently under load.

I performed these test both idle and on the road.

Question Miss fire on multiple cylinders.

Update on my problem. I drive a 1997 dodge ram 1500 with 5.9 magnum engine. Recently had a miss fire code pop on on cylinder 2 while smashing on the gas trying to get on the freeway. I erased the code and did some basic tests both parked and on the road. I didn't feel any miss fires and code didn't come back. I then took my truck on a trip driving 800+ miles to the state over hitting 3000+ rpm on multiple occasions. Not a single problem. Then yesterday after I returned home I was driving 30mph and open throttled it and check engine light popped up. This time for cylinder 2 and cylinder 6. It also got the p0300 random miss fire code. I have concluded My truck only throws the code when I full open the throttle trying to get speed fast. Recently replaced my plugs so we will see if this fixes the problem. I replaced my plugs, distributor cap, rotor, throttle pesition sensor and wires 20,000 miles ago give or take. I'm going to see tomorrow if alldata will give me any specs for testing my coil or distributor. I also recently replaced my engine heads. so to clarify no codes at all with gradual acceleration or around 3000 rpm going at high speeds. Only throws codes at relatively low speeds with a sudden open throttle. would love some feed back from some more experiences techs.

Did you ensure that the intake plenum gasket was replaced when you pulled the cylinder heads? Be sure to read this thread for more information - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...um-thread.html

Lastly, did you check for both stored and pending codes? Wondering if any other codes may have popped up..

Yes, I replaced all gaskets to anything I had to take off. If I was doing this I wanted to do it right. And no, I don't know if it had any past or pending codes. I don't own a scanner myself since I'm barely starting my career. The scanner I used was from autozone (which I disliked).

Unhappy update #3 miss fire under heavy load.

new tech trying to trace a miss fire across multiple cylinders p0300 but mainly cylinder 2 and 6 according to the autozone scanner and its throwing me in a loop. Code is only thrown under full throttle, the truck in question is a 97 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 magnum engine. Truck has new spark plugs and has had a lot of work done to it approximately 20k miles ago. Has had new heads, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, timing chain and throttle position sensor with all new gaskets replaced. did a resistance test on ignition coil with it being in spec and battery reads 12v. Last time I checked on my engine after driving my plug wires were burning hot to the touch so I went ahead and bought new ones but at this point I'm guessing what the problem is. Alldata gives me no help for diagnostics at all. Would love some advice to figure out the problem without throwing parts at it.
