Default Heavy Duty 46re transmissions?

Hi all. So I unfortunately I believe im gonna need a transmission rebuild or at least the valve body rebuilt. Ive got a low governor pressure issue (actually had a shop test pressure). Ive of course went through everything i possibly could have to fix the issue but nothing. I have 1998 Ram 1500 5.2 46re 2wd

So question is, if I actually need a rebuild, am i better of getting a new trans? If so, do they make heavy duty transmissions? I fully hate working on transmissions and in the future id like to get some mild power upgrades. As far as i know of, my current transmission is stock to the truck, with 120k miles. Supposedly, the old owner had a rebuild done at 100k, but ive never seen proof to that...

Thanks.

You can do a LOT to the 46RE trans to beef it up.... but, it ain't cheap..... Check out these guys. They have everything from rebuild kits, to individual parts, to complete transmissions. Give ya an idea of costs involved.

ZF8 would be a trans i would like to put behind every motor i have.

Was the pressure low across the rpm band and if so by how much? If you hate working on transmissions buy all the parts to rebuild it and take it to a trans shop.

Any tips for installing a ZF8 transmission behind a 5.9 magnum in a 2nd gen truck and how it would be controlled?

You need to get one from a newer dodge that had one,They where in different manufacturers but the bell housing is different. This is the controller you will need. Mods will have to be done to the trans support and you will need to change the pcm to a manual if you don't want codes.

Thanks for the information. I take it that a custom wiring harness may also be needed from the controller to the ZF8 transmission?

It sounds like the bell housing bolts up directly to the 5.9 magnum. Does the ZF8 torque converter bolt up to the existing 5.9 magnum flex plate? Does the ZF8 use the same starter as the 46RE transmission?

The more I think through this swap, it may be more involved since my truck is 4WD.
