Default 98 Ram 1500 5.2 IOD Fuse keeps blowing

Hello guys and gals

i just purchased some aftermarket tow mirrors from EBay, and installed them today.
after the install, I hit my switch to move the mirrors and the fuse blew. I added another 10A fuse and hit the switch and it immediately blew again.

So I called O’Reillys, and they said it was safe to go to a 15A fuse…it immediately blew too.

i finally got a 20A fuse to work, but one mirror works while the other doesn’t. I’m seeing all these other people not having to change a fuse at all, but it takes an extra 10A for only one mirror to work…little confused. What’s worse is the passenger side will work fine, but when I hit the drivers side, it won’t move and my interior lights dim down and my motor will surge/bog down a little bit.

i plan to test the non functioning mirror to see if it’s bad, but in the instance it’s not bad, what should I look for?

I do have an aftermarket radio, from what I gather radios are tied to the IOD fuse?

Hope to get some help! Thanks all!

Did you have power mirrors beforehand? Is the only difference that these are tow mirrors?

My old mirrors were powered and heated. The new ones are also power and heated.

the only difference is that it they are Tow mirrors. Everything was plug and play, with no alterations needed.

Figured it out.

These mirrors didn’t have any instructions on the fact the wires needed to be guided a certain way, and I didn’t realize it. I pinched the wires and short circuited the harness.

cut, spliced and repaired the bad spot, and the mirror is working fine now.

only thing is that now I need a new control switch. It fried the drivers side left and up movement. But I have a buddy with a scrap yard I’m gonna pick and pull from.

I appreciate the input!!!
