Default 3.9 to 5.9 in a 2001 Ram 1500

Hi all. I have seen a lot of conflicting information on the internet about this and so Im posting to get some clear answers.

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 with the 3.9 v6 and auto trans. Its the short wheel base.

I have a donor truck that is running and complete. Its a 1997 Ram 1500 extended cab with the 5.9 and auto trans.

Ive read thatI can just add two injectors to the harness and use the 5.9 ecu in the v6 truck to swap but other places tell me that I would need the entire 1997 harness with the 1997 ecu and 5.9. Other places are telling me that the bus difference makes it so that I would need a 2001 5.9 ecu instead of the donor truck 1997 ecu.

what is the correct answer here?

Thanks in advance!

Too much changed between 97, and 01, the computers won't swap. You *should* be able to use your existing harness/PCM, add the two additional circuits for the injectors, and then have your ecm flashed for the 5.9. The V-6 programming will NOT run the V-8. At all..... Barring that, you would need a 2000, or 2001 PCM\harness for 5.9, and auto trans.

Ok, so if I were to get the proper injector plugs and pigtails I could add them to my v6 harness?

I have an HPI tuner, would I be able to take a 2001 5.9 flash and overwrite my v6 programming?

I know it works on the older trucks that way. I would expect it should work on yours as well.
