Default 241 Transfer Case ID/Input Shafts

Recently rebuilt my 241DLD transfer case, bearings cup and ball, seals, small parts, chain, oil pump. Did some research looking for a 'backup' case, which I never found. For transfer case service you will need the ID from the round tag to order parts. 241 came in many configurations and the build tag will tell you what parts the transfer case was originally equipped with. Visible differences besides the speedo output and shifter input, are spline count and input shaft length. Input shaft length quite obvious from outside.
Input shafts are somewhat mix and match, many can be swapped from unit to unit with appropriate input bearing. Meaning it might be possible to swap your input shaft into a junkyard case, make a different unit work for your needs. 231 1500 cases very similar.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you can get the spline count, speedo output and range shifter correct, you can make any junkyard case work on a swap.

You can machine the single row bearing planetary input to the upgraded double row

Apparently some 1st year runs could have a different spline pitch. I say that because the transmission i just put in my truck was stamped as a '93.

With a V8, you have a 231 case/46RH, but the input shafts of this era are common to the 241. A late build '93 would be a '94, or you got lucky and 7.5deg of pitch didn't keep you from getting it together. A 241 case for a Gen II Dodge should be easy to keep straight. One more thing to pay attention to.
FWIW your throttle cable is listed on RockAuto/Amazon (in the States) for about 150CAD under part number 52104030AD. Junkyard sounds like a better bet, Canada is not the easiest place to source parts.

What v8 has a 231? A 1500?

Yeah, 1500's will have the 231 t-case, 2500/3500 may have a 231DHD, or a 241, or even a 241DHD.... The hd's just have a wider chain.

Yes, my mistake. For whatever reason I thought you had a 1500.
241DHD has a provision for PTO under that side cover, heavier planetary setup as well.

That i didnt know. Thought it was a 47+ feature only. I wonder if i can find a DHD that fits my 94? I always wondered about the pto thing. While i dont have a specific use it could come in handy at some point on service truck.

Check car-part.com - a 241 DHD from 94 - 97 should work, as they have the VSS you'll need - just make sure that it comes out of a truck with a gas motor..
