So I found that the ground to the passenger cylinder block was extremely frayed and broke off. I fixed that one issue still continues the battery I’m currently using is only giving like a 12.1 voltage when truck is off so my father thinks that it might just be that the battery is too old and it’s not giving the proper voltage for the computer so we’re changing the battery out. What’s the likelihood of that?

Not too far-fetched of a theory. The electrical systems in these trucks seem to be REALLY sensitive..... It's worth a shot at least.

To be honest, I will feel like an idiot if that’s the problem but if it solves it, then it solves it

So since I put the new battery in, I still have the issue but I got a P0505 code which says that there’s a short in the idle control motor
im assuming that the battery voltage issue was preventing the computer from
finding the issue

Yeah, that one is generally fatal. You can try changing out the IAC, but, if that doesn't fix it, it's PCM time. Genuine mopar IAC only please. These trucks don't play nice with the aftermarket fellers.

unfortunately, I gotta stick with aftermarket for the moment, due to my timeframe but as long as it gets me through for the moment, I’d be happy then I can get a OEM one

So after a three hour and 6 mile walk to the auto parts store and back, I got my idle air and it was running perfectly fine. I didn’t have any codes and then after 21 minutes the engine shut off again. This time I have no code like I did with the other Idle air, so I’m assuming this probably means I need a new PCM ?
if that’s the case what do I need to match to make sure I get it correct ?

You have an 01, so you need the correct PCM, and it needs to be flashed to your VIN number as well. Check with your local parts stores, see what their pricing is like.

Now I just have to hope that this fixes the problem cause I spent days trying to go through this and I really hope that I wasn’t gonna have to replace the PCM but I guess it’s a logical decision in this case.
