Belt Tensioner Flop
I have an issue with my Belt Tensioner ticking forward and backward. I have tried everything and have been unable to fix the issue.
I have replaced the Tensioner and Pulley, Idler Pulley, and Serpentine Belt with every brand available.
I have replaced the damper, crank pulley, fan clutch, everything.
I even went to the extent and had the ENGINE REBUILT. Yea, this tensioner tick is driving me NUTS.
The only thing I haven’t replaced is the damn fan blades! lol.
Any suggestions? 😂

I have a laser alignment tool as well, all pulleys are perfectly aligned.
I have purchased numerous belts of varying lengths for the 318 5.2, all of which have had the same issue
In terms of stops, the tensioner pulley isn’t reaching its full capacity inwards when it’s ticking. It is difficult to tell if it is ticking when releasing either inwards or outwards from the slack.
it also seems that sometimes the ticking is much worse, and sometimes not so bad.
You can download the parts manual for your year truck here - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...s-manuals.html
You should be able to find the OEM part number for the belt from the parts manual or contact your local Dodge dealer for the part number. Once you have the part number, you can Google search for that belt.

Hi, new member here I don't see the year for your 5.2L truck. I have a 1996 1500 5.2L with factory air. The dodge mopar serpentine belt part number is 53010277 [discontinued]. But more important is the "PK" number which is 7PKX2476 ....Belt manufacturers have a PK number on their belt, [along with their own belt part number] that gives the belt length. With the PK number, the first number indicates the number of ribs, and the last four numbers are the effective length in millimeters. So the mopar belt above, 7PKX2476 has 7 ribs and is 2476 mm long [about 97.5 inches]. Also, most manufacturers have the "inch" length number coded into their own part number's last four digits, so my Dayco belt part number is 5070975 - indicating 97.5 inches long [same length as the mopar]. NOTE When I search for my belt on rockauto, the recommended belts vary in length from 2470 mm to 2478 mm - a difference of 8 mm or about 1/3 of an inch difference. I don't think 1/3 inch would matter here. The Continental belt # 4070972 7PK2470 is the shortest of my recommended belts. Did you have any problems installing a Continental belt? Which brand would you recommend? Don't know if this helps, but I was looking for a new belt and found different size belt lengths on rockauto for my application. Sorry about this long post! Thanks.
