Default 97 dodge ram 1500 wont start.

Hello, I have a 97 Dodge ram 1500 sport that refuse to start. To start off the truck has a brand new battery, brand new ignition lock cylinder and starter. The issue I'm having is I turn the key and everything powers up. When I try to turn the engine over I get absolutely nothing. No clicks from starter, no cranking, nothing. Prior to all this it would have a hard time starting. Meaning I'd have to jiggle the keys back and forth a few times or shake the truck. And during this time I was getting the same result. No starter, no cranking. But eventually it would start right up, no struggle turning over. It has gotten worse over time and this was prior to all the new parts stated above. Now however it won't start at all.

Try starting in neutral. See what happens.

Can you clarify: you changed the ignition lock cylinder (the part that the key turns) or the ignition switch ? In any case check the wiring along the steering column.

If you jumper the starter and it turns over. That bypasses the ignition and neutral safety switch.

To start off the truck has a brand new battery
Did you clean both the terminals on the battery and the cables? Also make sure the terminals are tight.
