Motor Replacement
Never pulled an engine before?
-take lots and lots of pictures of wire routes, hosing etc. Then take more.
-make.sure you have plenty of cribbing to support things like tranny, exhaust.
-have plenty of string and bungies to hold things out of the way.
-comes out easiest with hood off, rad out and some say undivorced but i always do.
-watch your rear wiring harness & crank sensor wires when putting engine back in.
-locktight on flexplate bolts even if LIT says no.
-keep bolts seperated by top/bottom in buckets or something. Labels if need be.
hmmm..... probably a few others im not thinking of. Dont let the fan take out your rad. Lol

Depends on how much you plan to spend and how bad the rod knock is. You might get lucky and just need to replace the rod bearings on the offending knocking rod if the crank isn't beat up real bad, if you wanted to repair the motor cheaply..
Personally, I'd opt to go with a 5.9 to give yourself more torque and power. It bolts into the same place as the 5.2 engine and uses the same 46RE transmission.

Hearing ya loud and clear! Definitely taking my time. Also a new 5.9 isn’t in budget as of rn. All I have is the 5.2 wit rod knock km taking out. I planned on just doing a mild “street” build of sorts. Like fix the rod knock and than cam it with an intake and some other **** maybe not sure yet.
Completely understand. Sorry you didn't mention that you needed a motor before you picked up the used 5.2. The 5.9 should run about the same price used and all you need is the 5.9 flexplate (with weights on it) for the conversion. Of course, you may need to re-use your existing intake and exhaust manifolds from the old motor, but those 5.2 and 5.9 parts interchange.

cause if that’s true, I’ll just get a used 5.9 and build it
i just don’t wanna spend more then I need to

It should run with the original PCM, but might not be perfect. You can certainly have the existing PCM updated/flashed with a new tune to better handle the 5.9 engine.
hey what about a hemi swap?
LOTS of work, and the stock PCM won't have a clue about it. You would need to do some serious adaptation get a hemi to work. One member that tried this, installed the third gen dash into his truck. But, after working at it for a couple years, he finally gave up, and sold it.
Do you happen to know if that harness will make the stock 2nd gen gauges work with the Hemi motor and transmission swap? Lastly, do you have a link to who makes that harness?
