Hey folks,
I am rebuilding my NV3500 (again) and it seems there has been an update to the synchros and I’m just looking for some guidance. The old one I have are a 3 piece. The synchros I have had an outer cone and an inner fiber like cone. The outer ring was smooth on the inside for the inner ring to slide into. The new ones have ridges on them so the old inner rings don’t fit. Did they do away with the inner rings and now you just leave them out or do they need to be pressed in? I thought about trying to press them in but I don’t want to damage the rings. Also the new ones have different sized ridges on them. I assume the placement is important I just wouldn’t know what goes with what. Any and all guidance or help would be much appreciated.
Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, I've attached some pictures of the original 3 piece synchros that come on 1st and 2nd gears. As well as the 1 piece synchro found on all other gears. Are these the same synchros you pulled out of your transmission?
If you could attach a picture of the synchros you purchased it would be helpful, but I'm assuming they're the one piece synchros for 1st and 2nd which are not interchangeable with the multipiece design. Not sure which design came first but they don't mix. Don't press anything. This all fits together by hand. I realize I'm a bit late to the party but I hope this helps.
