46re trans cooler
I have a 2001 1500 5.9 and im putting a new transmission in it and for the warranty I have to put a new trans cooler in and I need help deciding what one to get. I could just get the stock one, but is it best to upgrade? I do a most of my driving 100+ degree heat in the summer and the most I would be towing if ever is like 5000lbs. Thanks for the help.
I have the factory towing package on my truck and when I installed the rebuilt/modified 46RE transmission & torque converter, I just flushed the transmission cooling lines, along with the transmission cooler and installed it. As part of the transmission upgrade, I did install a deep transmission pan (an ATS aluminum pan that they say only fits a 48RE, but also fits a 46RE in a Dodge Ram) and I've had no issues with towing to-date.
Please be sure to properly flush those transmission lines to ensure any metal and debris are flushed from the lines and cooler. This kit does a great job - https://www.autozone.com/motor-oil-a...25oz/36205_0_0
