2001 Ram 2500 V10 Oil pressure issue
Cam sensor is in the timing cover. Probably just not plugged in, and yes, the PCM NEEDS that sensor to start the engine.
[QUOTE=Moparite;3588314]Sounds like it's not timed correctly. Put #1 cylinder at tdc ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE....QUOTE]
Distributor. Gotta love trolling parrots.
See Keymo's thread downpage, similar position to yours. Sounds as simple as cam sensor not installed quite right. PCM needs the cam sensor to know where the crank is or no fire. FSM is your friend. Post anything you learn.
You'll get it, good luck.

Ok, after putting every thing back together, I had no idea the Cam Position sensor needed to be measured. lesson learned, the truck won't start because the high end of the timing chain pulley broke it off! F*&CK! dropping the oil pan tomorrow morning to, hopefully clean out chunks of plastic from the sensor. FML!
OK, I went and pulled the engine apart again, Cam shaft sensor pieces everyone in the timing chain cover and low end of the oil pan. got it all cleaned out, put the engine back together, installed the new Cam Shaft sensor correctly this time ( lesson learned the hard way ). Truck fires right up and sounds good. but my oil pressure dummy gauge acts the same. it sits at zero, when I slowing give it gas, it starts climbing to around 40 PSI at around 2k RPM. If I let the gas off it drops to probably around 8 to 10 psi, sits there for about 10 seconds then drops to zero setting off the "check gauges" light. it will climb while driving, but drops every time. I am assuming this means the oil pump is working. I am trying to get a mechanical gauge to test that. Any other ideas? I also saw a video about how oil can sometimes get up into the connector of the sensor, so I cleaned that out real good but no change.
What else could cause oil pressure to drop?
I’ve replaced the oil pump, oil pressure piston and spring, no sludge anywhere, removed and cleaned out pickup tube, replaced the sensor. I’m stumped. Do you have any recommendations for a mechanical oil pressure gauge ?
