Hey guys, just looking for opinions on whether I'm better off replacing my dash or using a dash cap. I live on a dirt road, so every time I drive it, it gets 4 miles of gravel/washboard. Do you put glue on the whole underside of the dash cap, or does it only connect to the sides? My main annoyance is the rattle that the broken dash makes... I'm tempted to try one of the $70 dollar dash caps on Ebay, but don't want to waste the money and still end up buying a $300 dash from Geno's or wherever y'all recommend...
Here's what my dash currently looks like.
Sorry for the bad pics, but they're what I have on my phone.
Looking forward to hearing what y'all recommend!
Thanks in advance.
Courage
My dash was worse than yours. There wasn't much of the original left to glue to. I glued where I could but mostly it's held on by screws around the edges. It's held up pretty good for two plus years. Does it rattle? A bit. However, I drive down similar roads to yours and the rest of the truck rattles too.
My upper dash has cracks everywhere. I've already bought a new upper dash for the truck, but I also need a lower dash as well, as that's cracking up badly, too. Unfortunately, no one seems to be making a new lower dash unit for the '94 - '97 2nd gen Rams yet. Once I source a good new or used lower dash, heater core, evaporator and blend door seals, I'll pull the complete dash assembly out and rebuild it, since I have no plans of getting rid of my 2nd gen Ram truck.
Thanks guys for the info. That's the other aspect I'm trying to figure out. If I do replace the dash, what parts should I replace while I'm in there?
I've hear of people braking the old dash out, and then only putting the easily accessible screws back in to avoid dropping the steering column. Is that a terrible idea?
