Hi, recently changed the pan gasket in my 94 Ram 3500 gasser. I accidentally ran the truck with only 4 quarts of fluid because that was the starting point of capacity for my 4 speed auto transmission. The motor got a little hot after short distance to get more fluid as I was defiantly low by about 4 more quarts of fluid +-. The truck ran fine, sure the gears were slipping as it was low fluid. My truck takes about 10 quarts of trans fluid. After putting a hair much in I instantly bought a suction device and sucked out any overfill from the transmission. Truck ran great. Then next day made it 40 miles to work. 6 hours later got in the truck to start it would not start. Crank but no start. Went there the next morning, turned the key, heard the fuel pump, started first try. Let it run for 3-4 minutes then it dies. waited 15 m minutes started it again, ran for 3-4 minutes then she dies again. Waited 15. minutes, but this time I revved the truck up to 2000 rpm. I could maintain my foot but the idle would drop and rise to 1800 rpm over and over again. I had the truck towed home and is sitting here waiting for the new throttle position sensor to arrive. I checked the coil and it has good spark. Checked the fuel and it has 40 pounds at fuel rail. Checked the code flashes an 11. an 11 code states... no crank speed sensor signal during cranking. Is this defiantly going to be my crankshaft sensor? or any other idea. I don't want to fire the parts canon just yet.

When it won't start, do you have spark?

 

Yeah it's a 4 speed sorry bout that I just called the transmission shop and asked, but it seems to shift more than 4 times so I thought it was a 6 speed. But that's another thread. Anyway Yeah I checked the coil with a spare spark plug and we saw what appeared to be good spark. There is an OBD1 flashing code 11, so Im thinking it may be the crankshaft sensor?

 

Crank sensor is what tells the PCM when to fire the coil.... If you are getting spark.... are you getting injector pulse?

 

I have checked the fuel rail and am getting around 40 pounds of pressure. That’s all I know as far as injector pressure.

 

Injector pulse. Basically, is the PCM firing the injectors. You can rent/borrow noid lights from your local auto parts store to test that.

 

If you are getting a code 11 the pcm senses an issue with the cam sensor(distributor reference signal). After 96 a 11 code could be either a cam or crank signal but then you can get more detailed "P" codes with OBD2.
