Default 2nd Gen 1500 Headlight

I have a new to me 1996 ram 1500 and it has a headlight issue. The fog, blinkers, and brights work. Just not the headlight itself and im at a loss for what it is or could be. The switch itself has power and the test light lights up when the switch is on for the headlights but i don’t know where my issue is residing at. The bulbs are brand new. The brights also don’t stay on, on their own as you have to hold them in the whole time im unsure if that’s connected to the issue i am having. On another side note my cat is failing emissions as well as o2 sensor and o2 heat sensor.

No, just to the brights and blinker and fogs.

what bulbs did you replace with? 9004 and 9007 bulbs will physically interchange but they are pinned differently and provide this exact result of hold the high beam for illumination if installed incorrectly. Your truck would have used 9004 stock, but may have been converted. Especially if aftermarket lights had been used at some point. 9007 is actually a better bulb, it would be worth repining the truck harness to make it function

Take the connector off the headlight switch, Bet it's melted. You can get a replacement that comes with the switch and the pig tail.
