hey hope this hasnt been asnwered. Looked thru the forum. But has anyone installed an aftermarket tach in a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.2l

any tips would be great.

no it doesnt,
my gauges are, 1 big *** gas gauge, speedo, engine temp, voltage, oil pressure,

you dont think there is a after market tach designed for this truck???

and why is it that difficult, have you tried?

Go to a junk yard and see if you can get a dash with the tach.

If you can do that try to get the wiring harness too. If you can't you could get a cheap aftermarket one and cut it for the wiring, rig up the wiring harness off that to the tach on the dash.

I suppose you could also try to buy a new instrument pannel but that would be $$$$$$$$$$.

EVERYTHING is possible!!!

i heard there was a wire under the dash one could cut into to get the rpm reading... was this true, or complete BS, and then just splice into one for power and what not

look on ebay..ton of gauge clusters for sale on there from wrecked rams... your truck should already carry the correct wiring for a tach b/c i think it was an option.... if not then it shouldnt be hard to hack up some wiring and still keep the factory tach... itll be ALOT easier to install a aftermarket one.. super easy... instructions come with them.. just gotta know how to cut splice solder wires...and use a multimeter
