tach instal!
I'm new to the forum and was also wondering how to hookup an aftermarket tachometer.I have a 1998 ram 1500 with the 5.2 318.I was having trouble finding out where to attach the tach wire to get a rpm reading.I tried the coil neg wire (black with grey tracer) and I tried the factory tach wire (grey with light blue tracer) both gave no reading.Do I need an tach adapter to get it to work?
The factory tach wire probably isn't the correct signal for your tach...... its kind of a funny system....... (and far more complicated than it really needs to be....) Your tach should have been able to figger something out from the ground side of the coil..... did you have good connections all the way to the tach?

Woulda been nice had the previous posters in this thread actually posted the info...... The tach adapter MIGHT work, but, I don't think so......
With your tach hooked up 'correctly', does the engine run, and the tach just not do anything?
