Default 01 ram 1500 5.9 swap with manual trans

I'm interested in purchasing a 01 ram 1500 with a 5 speed. Only thing is I have been told they are only avaliable with thev5.2. What would be involved with swapping a 5.9 in it.I have one from a 97 1500 and have the computer but it's for a auto trans. Thanks for the help

The engine would be a direct drop in. The 97 electronics won't work though, too much changed in 98. You would just need to get your current computer flashed for the larger engine, and be sure to use a flywheel for the 5.9, as it is externally balanced, and the 5.2 flywheel won't work. (internally balanced.)

Keep in mind, there is a REASON the NV3500 (trans in your truck) never came behind the 5.9......

Yeah i get why it never came with a 5.9. The nv3500 isnt built for alot of abuse. But its just gonna be a tow pig for my cavalier ministock. So not really gonna get beat on if i get it. Where is a good place to have a computer reflashed for the 5.9l ? Also will the 97 5.9l work with a differently flashed computer? Are the sensors and hook ups gonna be the same

Could you not swap all the 5.2 sensors over to the 5.9 motor?

The trick would be to slap the 5.2 intake, and all of it's sensors, onto the 5.9. (they are pretty much the same anyway.....) Sensors may have different connectors on the older engine. Including the crank sensor. (which isn't on the intake....)

Dealer should be able to flash the PCM for you, but, if you can't convince them to do so, HemiFever, or Flyin' Ryan can get you a tune, (and a tuner) to flash it yourself.

Also need to change the distributor pickup sensor, that connector is different. Probably should pull the intake and do the plenum anyway. Isn't going to be any easier to do then now.
