Default Radio turns itself down while driving

I’ve got a 2000 ram 1500 with the 5.9. When I’m driving I’ve noticed the volume turns down and the volume **** won’t go any louder past a certain point, just clicks. Would this be fixed by replacing the head unit?

everything is stock as far as I know. If I do replace it should I replace it with another stock or is there another brand people here like?

It would involve removing the unit taking it apart to clean(or replace) the volume potentiometer. I'm surprised anybody is still using the stock radio. So much more out there today that the stock radios won't do.

I just bought it lol I’ll just put a new head unit in. You have a brand you recommend?

I have 1-din Sony with BT but w/o cd-player. Works good.
When you plug in the new unit, remember to connect power antenna wire to an amplifier wake-up. IIRC it's orange wire. Or blue?

right on. I’m guessing a 2-din won’t fit? I’ll probably get a Sony I’ve had good luck with Sony products
