Default re gearing

Ok i've posted a couple threads here and done a fair amount of research and was wondering.... 1500 dana 44 etc. was thinking if i have to rip the front axle halfway apart to replace cv and seals... if i re geared it to 4.10 and didnt engage 4wd unitl i re geared rear axle would it make any difference? it seems like a good time to get in there but was wondering about 2nd opinions..
