Just triple checking to be 100%. This is the one. It will be the white wire with a purple strip that is the return wire correct?

I don't think it's that one. Should be on the passenger side fender, close to the firewall.... Do you have a diesel??

Do you know what wire i should be looking for?

is it the same colored wire that goes into the sensor ontop of the rear axle (white with purple strip) ??

Everybody hold on to their penguins for a second, too much going down ratholes going on. In a 98 and up the sensor in the rear diff connects to the ABS module *only*. The PCM gets speed information from the ABS module via a dedicated connection. Things to check:
Fuse 11 in the PDC and fuse 3 in the inside fuse panel.
Pin 1 and pin 8 (should be red/yellow and white/purple) at the ABS module connect to the sensor in the rear axle. Check resistance across the pins in the connector and if it is close to the same as at the sensor itself that should be good.
Pin 12 (white/orange) goes to the PCM connector 2 pin 27. Resistance should be close to 0. This is the speed signal.
Pins 7 and 14 (red/dark green) are permanent power from the PDC. Obviously they should have 12V at all times.
Pin 4 (red/dark blue) is switched 12V which should come on with the ignition on.
Pin 13 and 6 are the ground for the ABS module. Check resistance to ground.

NOTE: The wire colors are from a 98 FSM so they might not be accurate.

Default Issue resolved/fixed

Finally after 8 long months of not having a speedometer or cruise control. I started chasing down my ground wire(white/purple) and found the break/corrosion in the wire. Cut a good 2inches out and remade the connection. Now my cluster isnt lit up like a Christmas tree!!!
