Default 2001 1500 sport

So last night I was on my way home driving a while then my cluster lights turned off stopped checked inside fuses nothing wrong nothing blown but when I check the outside fuses there’s one blown it’s the 19 fuse or also the g fuse in the service manual. Put a new 20 in to see if it was just a bad fuse, blew right away. I’m pretty sure it sounds like a short to me but unsure what it all goes to and where to start. Any ideas so I’m not just tracing wires all day looking for this, or does anyone else have had or know of any spots that shorts have usually occur. Also all running lights are off but blinkers, brakes and headlights all work.

You can download the service manual for your truck from here. Wiring/electrical is in section 8W. See what all that fuse goes to, take it from there.

Do you have any aftermarket accessories wired into the truck? Radio? Alarm? That kind of thing??

nope bone stock, just wondering if anyone else had the same issues I’ve seen things about different fuses going but not one where the fuse doesn’t fix the problem.

Did the fuse blow right away with the lights still off ? That would indicate a short between the PDC and the light switch. Otherwise remove the front marker and tail light bulbs and start tracing the black/yellow wires from the headlight switch down.

unsure, I’ll have to check if it’s still pulling power without them on today. Also I’m unfamiliar with the “PDC” but if I’m not mistaken it’s all connected to the running lights, fog lights, and then rear running lights.

PDC = Power distribution Center. The fuse box under the hood.
