Yeah, I think I read somewhere that stant was bought out by motorad....

That said, when I was working on volkswagens, I would buy three thermostats, to improve the odds of getting one that worked, and that was back in the 80's.... Quality has not improved.

And it simply doesn't matter what brand it is, or how old it is, with temps that low, it is stuck open, or coolant is finding some other way of bypassing it.

The best thermostat I put in my v10 was for a 3306 caterpillar. 190ish opening temp, just went to the local cat dealer with the old one and matched it temp wise. A friend that's a diesel tech recognized what is was. That thermostat is what style the big boys run, but they run 2 in a lot of cases.

hmmmm maybe I should check with Redwine and see if I can get a cat thermostat

I fixed it today, as I suspected it WAS under the dash, there's a non working vacuum actuator that turns it from cold to hot, so I disconnected the lever and moved it to the other position and now I have 91 deg out of eth defroster, which is all I care about
