Default Gear Ratio ?'s

Newby here on the forums. I have a 95' ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.9L in it that I built. The motor is far from stock and I'm not pleased with the factory 3.55 gears I believe that are in my rear-end.

The truck has an NV4500 5 speed manual in it and has little to no torque or bottom end it seems. With the engine build I should have a hell of a lot more bottom end and I am attributing it to the axle gear ratios.

I'm not a professional in the suspension aspect so need some advice. I will use the truck to drive daily and want it to be decent on the freeway at 80mph. I live in Idaho and fish and hunt so I want the truck to travel well. I was looking at past threads and can't find the combo I have with a 5 speed manual so I came to ask those who are more experienced in this area. What gearing would you prefer to run for something like this. The tires I currently have on it are too big they are 35s and when they are worn I'm stepping down to 33s.

Pics of the engine build for fun and a pic of the truck. I bought it with the 35s and the ranchero shocks or lift not even sure what suspension it has as far as lift or anything. She'll get body work and paint as well.

4.10s go really well with 33's. Though I think your biggest problem is.... your tune. If you upgraded things like cam, compression ratio, heads, etc, the stock tune is most certainly holding you back. Trouble is, the 95 is not flash programmable...... Gears will help, but, you'll still be leaving a lot on the table with the stock tune..... I would suggest finding a 96 or 97 truck with a v-8, grab the harness, and PCM from that, (don't forget the diagnostic port in the cab...) and graft that on to your truck. That will give you a programmable PCM, that is friendly with the gauges and such in your truck. (the 98 and newer stuff, EVERYTHING went thru the PCM, so, isn't really useful for you.....) Then, get a custom tune from Hemifever, of Flyin' Ryan, and enjoy all that new found power.

How difficult would it be to graft a harness from a 96' onto my 95'. I am a certified auto tech but do it for fun really haven't worked in the field since I was in my 20's. I can get a harness and pcm from a junk yard here pretty easy. When I send the PCM in for a tune would I need to send all the build info to them or how does that work?

I thought hemifever kinda disappeared into the woodwork? I've talked to flyn ryan a few times pretty decent. If you get and SCT, wide band 02, you can do all the flash loading yourself and create log files they build from if I recall correctly

Probably have to re-pin some stuff in the bulkhead connector, but, aside from that, I think it's pretty straightforward. Service manuals for both year trucks are available in the FAQ/DIY section..... Wiring diagrams are in section 8W. The engine harness itself is pretty much the same.... just the connectors at the PCM end are different.

I was reading this morning HP supports tuning on the 5.2 and 8.0 platform in 95 but not the 5.9? what's so different about the 5.2 and 5.9 PCM? I figured it was just a conservative fuel map. Could try grabbing a 5.2 pcm and tuning it to a 5.9 file?

I suspect that's a misprint. NONE of the 95 PCM's are flash programmable..... Still OBDI.
