No buss code on dash
That can't be a coincidence..... Check the harness going to the trans, see if it got pinched somewhere. Also, check the connector at the trans, the wires like to pull out and short together.
You might also try disconnecting the connector at the trans to see if there's an internal wiring issue. The PCM disables overdrive if it deems the transmission too hot and if the temp sensor is shorted it might cause the CCD bus to go down as well.
No bus simply means that the cluster isn't getting any information on the communications bus. Unfortunately, EVERYTHING in the cluster is driven by that bus. Most of the sensors are on it as well, so, if one fails in some fashion, it takes down the entire comm bus, and things stop working. Like your transmission.
I suspect that if you solve the trans problem, you'll solve the no bus as well.

46RE trans, so, the electronic are really rudimentary. Governor Pressure solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, and O/D solenoid all operate on 12 volts, with the PCM controlling them via the ground. Governor pressure sensor, output speed sensor (which is on the outside of the trans, and has it's own connector....) are the only ones I recall just off hand, governor pressure is internal to the trans, and includes the trans temp sensor, both are fed by the same 5 volt signal.... I suspect your problem is with that 8 pin connector. It's on the drivers side of the trans, and plugs straight down into the top of the valve body. (the wide part toward the bottom of the trans, above the pan.)
