shut off
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT 2x4 that I have had for about 3 months, was driving one day and engine just shut off, I have a Haynes manual and did some checks And found that ASD relay is not staying called up, I have 12 volts to ignition coil then it disapears and even when i turn the ignition switch to start the 12 volts don't come back. I also have a roughly 4 amp parasitic draw on the battery i have been trying to locate, I even jumped 30 and 87 on the ASD to no avail, when i hook my odb2 reader up to the computer i get failure to connect.
Thank you!!

You will only see power at the coil/injectors/fuel pump for about 3 seconds at initial key on, then, the PCM has to see the engine turning (crank sensor) before it'll turn 'em back on. Sounds to me like a bad crank sensor, though the failure to communicate isn't promising either. Use only a genuine mopar crank sensor..... these trucks just don't like the aftermarket fellers.
Download the factory service manual for your truck from here.

sorry for such a long time reply, been fighting severe copd and prostate cancer, but finally changed the crank shaft position sensor and the old truck fired right up with no hesitation, now on to finding the parasitic draw on the battery, I have the IOD fuse out so it won't kill the battery.
Thank you!!

I don't have lighted vanity mirrors,I do have power seats, I am unable to pull out seat belts though on either side.I was going to unplug radio first and see if that would drop my parasitic draw, then go to the seat belt module.
both of those have been unplugged

If you have the pull style "dome, dash, low/high beams" ****, check that for any fused wiring or burnt/melted contacts on the inner part of the **** itself. Those are common for parasitic drains for this era and one I had to deal with myself. Not sure if the dial style of the switch fixed that issue or if that's what you have, but it may be worth a look?
