DHD in gas v8 auto.
I was pleasantly surprised to find DHD 241's in my 95 and 2000. I always heard they only came on the diesel and v-=10. Both are low miles snow plows
so about zero chance they were changed. both are equipped with heavy duty and plow prep package.( what ever that is?) I wonder which package provides the DLD case? Interestingly
the 95 has a two piece tail. both have PTO blank. So at the junk yard dont assume v8 auto will be DLD or just look at the output you might snag a DHD.

I always assumed the main difference was the PTO option, so if a municipality/fleet or similar wanted the potential for PTO it'd have to be the HD.
Our '02 CTD came with the NV5600 and DLD and it lived for about 300k miles and would have kept going if the broken d/s didn't crack the case.
These things are stupid rare now. Also if you're shopping for case halves you'll only be able find HD when you need LD, or vice-versa. 'Tis a universal truth of life.

the build sheet says fleet on the 2000, so perhaps its not the hd or snow plow prep option. anybody know what snow plow prep is?
I dont see any factory wiring for that. 4.11 gearing? The hd option lists skid plates, cooling and charging system on the option list.

I could see heavy duty alternator for plow prep as most run an electric hydraulic pump.. possibly dual batteries? wiring prep for light cutouts? All speculation, I have no first hand experience. An original window sticker would show you which prep group specs the DHD transfer case.
My truck came with a 241 DHD. It also was a snow plow truck with a 5.9 magnum engine and 46RE transmission. my 241 DHD is the early style that has the VSS provision on it. I picked up a spare 241 DHD unit a while ago. It looks just like the unit I have and I'm hoping that the input shaft will work with my 46RE transmission, but I'm not sure since the unit may have come out of a diesel truck
ok, thats the reason for the two piece out put housing, to accommodate the vss sensor, I assume thats for the rear abs? also it looks like the
(snow prep) provides a DHD case and nothing else unless its 410 rears and rear positraction which at least one of mine has
but thats mentioned separately in the sticker.
