Hello all, this is my first time on/using dodge forum so pardon me if I don't fit in haha.
I am buying my dads 2001 2500 manual Cummins SLT cab, short bed (I believe). I'm still learning all the differences in specs, but he has owned it since 2002. It has 160k miles and he's taken perfect care of it. But unfortunately he was towing his 5th wheel and side by side trailer on an icy hunting road and long story short, jackknifed. (pictures attached)
Having looked it over, I believe I just need to cab swap as the panel gaps around the fenders and hood did not interfere. I work on JDM and BMW's but I feel confident to do a cab swap with the help of some friends in my shop.
My question(s) are mainly what cabs will work; can I use any 2nd gen SLT cab? Does the donor cab have to be manual? Does it have to be a Cummins donor or would a 1500 cab work, etc..
Mainly I'm excited to learn this new (to me) platform, and while I could google some of this I'm sure I'll have more questions so I figured I'd give the forums a go!
I think a cab from 00-02 2500/3500 will bolt right on, or a cab from an 00-01 1500. Don't know how dodge did the manual trans holes..... I doubt you will be so lucky that they just bolt on though. Either need a manual trans cab, or, you'll likely have to cut some holes. Doesn't matter if the donor is gas or diesel, diesel would certainly be easier..... still and all, you will need to swap the cluster as well. (gas and diesel are different, plus, you want accurate mileage.) May need to do the wiring harness as well..... Should be fun.
