46 RE shifting
I have 35's and 3.55 gears (4.88/lockers in garage). I have a LV2 rebuilt trans I rebuilt, a 2100 mid-stall torque converter (O'Reileys) and a Sonnax ZIP Kit shift kit. I have no problems with slow acceleration or shifting. My shifts are a little hard, but normal. Going down the road shifting into OD, 45-50 is about when it shifts. When I accelerate at full throttle it shifts around 5K. Going up small/medium grades no problem staying in OD. Push the go pedal a bit and it drops gear going up hills. I don't haul anything heavy so not worried about that. Tire load range is "C". My son used it a month ago and hauled a Forester on a dolly from Long Beach to San Diego and kept it in OD most the whole way. It is a long way from being a speed demon, only headers and 3" cat back exhaust for engine mods.
exactly what it does.. Would a speedo gear change help? And thank you for the awesome reply's
Making your speedo more accurate sure won't hurt.
But, big tires, and small gears are always going to be somewhat of an issue.
Fortunately for you, changing the speedo gear is farkin' easy, 1 bolt, pull out the sensor, swap the gear, reinstall the sensor, put the bolt back in, done.
Unless you truck is 98 or newer, in which case, need a tuner to set pinion ratio, or some such. At one time, most of the tire stores could do that kind of thing, but, it seems these days, not all of 'em do.
