no power to ignition coil
hey im not sure if this is the right forum for this, i have a 1994 ram 1500 5.2 project but the motor is potentially a 92 5.2 and ive run into no spark which then led to no power going to the ignition coil from the harness but there is ground coming from the harness. ive read some posts and when you turn the key on there is no voltage at all in that 3 second span and i can not hear the fuel pump which is most likely cause it sat.
i do have suspision that its the crank position sensor or the fact i had to make the ground wire off the battery, but the ground wires i ran contained one to the body, frame and engine.
if anyone knows much about this issue if its a common issue, help would be much appreciated!

In a '94 both the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay (which controls power to the coil and the injectors) are controlled by a single pin at the PCM, and control side of the relays get power from the same source fuse 9 in the inside fuse panel. So pin 86 at both relays should have battery power with the ignition on, and pin 85 gets grounded during cranking. If that checks out fuse 4 (ASD) and 8 (fuel pump) are in the PDC under the hood.
Are you getting a "tach bounce" (tach needle coming off its resting position) during cranking ?

Keep in mind, unless the PCM sees the engine turning, coil will only have power for about 3 seconds..... Make sure you are getting that initial power when you first turn the key on. If that's not happening, its not a sensor issue.
i found out, when i put one needle of the multi meter into the pins on the coil connector and the other one onto the ground of the battery, it shows about 9v dc all the time, and but doesn't seem to have ground with continuity. tomorrow im gonna see if it fires the injectors as well with a small two prong light and ill get back. and if those don't fire it could very well be that i haven't hooked up the ground for the pcm.
and key on reads 0.00 for those three seconds when both multimeter needles are in both connection points for the ignition coil and i can not hear a fuel pump which very well could be from the truck sitting for 2 years untouched
usually id have this all working but finishing someone else's unfinished project is an interesting thing
