Default Fog lamp relay

Howdy!

I have a 1995 Ram. It did not come with fog lamps. However, I found the connectors under the bumper for both of them. Also, I found the connector for the fog light switch in the dash and installed a factory fog lamp switch. I also found the connector for a fog lamp relay under the dash. It mounts above the brake pedal. Having installed an OEM relay and the switch, my switch does not stay activated. The dash light does not illuminate with the rest of them, and the orange indicator light only stays on when I hold the button.

Upon searching the service manual, I saw there are supposed to be 2 fog lamp relays. One for the switch, and one to deactivate the high beams.

I can’t find the second fog lamp relay connector. Does anyone know where it is? It doesn’t make sense for all the wiring to be there minus one relay connector.

Thank you.

Grab the service manual for your truck from here. Wiring is in section 8W. There is also a section with 'figures' and diagrams, that show where all the components are located.

Thanks for always replying! I already have the FSM, which is where I got the diagram showing 2 relays. My truck doesn’t match the diagram in 8W for the model year.

I will double check figures though. All it told me was above brake pedal.

What I am seeing is, they should both be on top of the pedal where you found the first one.

I’ve looked high and low (literally) and there is only one relay connector coming out of the dash harness. I hope somebody can chime in that has a 94-97 with fog lights and chime in.

On my 96, the second relay was in the PDC.

I wish…I’ve checked multiple times in there to no avail. There’s not even a place for it on the diagram under the lid.

I really appreciate you.

Not all harnesses had all options. You may want to trace the wires from the bulb plugs back and see where they go. You may have only some of it.

I looked at both my 96 and 97. The 96 has factory lamps the 97 did not (no dash switch either). They both have the relay on the brake pedal like you posted a picture of. The 96 has two relays in the PDC labelled fog lamp/dual tank and they are both present. The 97 does not have these relays present but the positions are there/labelled as such. I don't recall if this 97 had the bumper wiring present. The cab and and frame has all been stripped down

Its quite possible the 94/95 has a different wiring setup, as there were several changes rolling into the 96 model year, mostly related to OBDII change over, a different PDC wouldn't be out of the question in my opinion.

EDIT: I looked up a 95 PDC on ebay and the cover layout is different than my 96/97 PDC so I think we can confirm there is a difference, they are also not labeled for the fog lamp. You're best chance, if the schematic seems incorrect, is to follow the wiring until you find something. There wasn't much to these trucks. Its gotta be in the dash area or on the fender well.

There is still a location for the fog lamp fuse, I assume you installed this 15amp

Excellent, thank you for the insight. I realized that I will indeed have to open the harness up and trace the wires back. My ‘95 came with a fuse for the fog lamp installed so I can either trace back from there or from the switch. I’m choosing to trace from the switch because it’s less cluttered under the dash. I’ll keep you updated.
