Default Throttle Valve Return Spring

I just finished pulling the transmission out of my truck last night and apparently I snagged the throttle return spring on something and stretched it out of shape (it's number 27 in the image). I've looked everywhere for a replacement and only found 2 places that sell it, both want high shipping charges, the highest being $26.15! Can I just use any similar size gauge and length spring as a replacement? I really hate to pay exorbitant shipping prices if I don't have to.

Yes, it's just a spring. Nothing special about it. Pick up something similar at your local hardware store.

Just make sure you don't get one that's too stiff. Makes the gas pedal hard to push.

That looks like the spring for the TV cable return that is down by the transmission shift selector. If so, I had that issue were the spring was missing and I picked one up dirt cheap at a local pick and pay salvage yard.

I got one (well an assortment) ordered. While the truck is down I’m stuck, got no way to go anywhere because my other vehicle (96 Isuzu trooper) needs an engine rebuild.

I do have another interesting question though… anyone know WTH this is? When I pulled the torque converter it was laying in the bell housing. It’s been there long enough to have been rubbing against the torque converter, but I can’t tell where it came from.

Looks like an alignment dowel..... that was apparently cast into the trans housing? Usually they are just a metal pin in a hole in the engine block.... Has the trans ever been out of the truck?

Yes, when I first got the truck 12-13 years ago I had a shop rebuild the trans because the previous owner thought it was a good idea to pull 5th wheel cattle trailers with it (it’s a 1/2 ton). About a month after I bought it the trans completely went out. This is the first time since then that the trans has been removed. I couldn’t locate anything on the front of the housing that looked like something had broken off from it. I was looking all over that housing lol. Really confusing.

To me it looks like the end of a starter.
