01 APPS bad?
A friend recommended me to a guy he works with to me to look at his truck. It's a 2000 (9-99 build date) It was an automatic swapped to a 5 speed manual. Are the APPS switch's the same between auto and manual. it has the usual drivability problems. Dead pedal sometimes, jerky starting off from a stop and when gently easing off throttle under cruise it gets kind of jerky also. It's kind of a monster to drive, to many other problems to list. Has anybody figured out a way to cure the APPS problems? I know there a million threads on this subject, but was hoping someone figured out a fix that actually works.
Thanks for the quick reply, OK, will do. Are they compatible with an aftermarket exhaust brake? or does it not matter. I saw where the Timbo said it was not compatible with the Banks unit.. Is one brand better than another?
I 100% would get a Timbo APPS, I have purchased several over the years, though I am not sure about the exhaust brake part, I have never had an exhaust brake on a 2nd gen. If Timbo specifically mentions it, it would be worth a call to them directly.
However, regarding the actual problem, was manual ECM/PCM installed? The truck may not get along running the automatic file with a manual transmission. I KNOW my 06 I manual swapped was a terrible thing to drive until I had a manual file programmed. This could probably be easily done with a DRBIII tool, if you can find one. I would look into this before dumping money in a Timbo, however, the OE APPS is a ticking time bomb so they are good insurance to have on the shelf.

I have no idea what the swapper did to this truck parts wise. I can pull the ecm info up in my scanner, don't know if this will tell me anything. Maybe give me a oem part number. otherwise I would have to pull the ecm out of the truck to see what it has.
