I have a 2001 5.9 2500 dodge ram vin z. It was driving fine before I got into an accident. I hit a car in front of me and the truck turned off on me and it would crank no start. It got towed home inspected fuses, fuel pressure, ignition coil and i got no spark from distributor to spark plugs. I inspected the distributor cap and saw it was broken, upon replacing it I noticed the order on the cables was wrong so I fixed the sequence. What once started on out of order cables is now a crank no start. So my next thought was check the distributor since the cables were out of order maybe the distributor is bad, and I had an ongoing issue before where the truck would die on me and not want to start again, and then it would. So I O scoped the camshaft sensor and it was bugging out and not reading anything so I replaced the distibutor and now it does the same thing. Crank no start. Can someone please point me in the right direction.
Wonder if someone did something with the distributor before..... Probably wouldn't hurt to verify base fuel sync..... Turn the engine so number 1 is at TDC, in the firing position, the distributor rotor should be pointing at the notch in the distributor body. ( if you are laying on the engine, it'll be at 7 O'clock or so....)
I changed the distributor rotor and cap. When I pulled it out someone was definitely in there doing god knows what. They had used silicone to make the gasket.
