Default Torque Converter Unlocking/Slipping While on Highway

Just as the title says, the TC in my 98 with a 318 is acting up. I can feel a “bump” that is the TC clutch unlocking, and I can watch the tach jump, then slowly go back down and sometimes slip back up halfway. Is there something on the truck that can be causing this, or is the TC going to need adjustment or replacement? The truck has 94k miles.

There is no adjustment.

Does it unlock if you move the gas pedal even a little bit? Mine was doing that, and replacing the TPS solved it......

Go for a drive. Find a LONG FLAT stretch of road.... run the truck up to 55 mph, and then hold the gas pedal steady, see if you still get TCC bounce...... If not, try tiny movements of the gas pedal, see if anything changes..... If it does, likely just a failing TPS.

Ok, I took the truck to town today. With cruise control on at 70mph, I could put steady pressure on the gas pedal and not get any unlocking issues. If I gave the pedal a quick blip, the TC would unlock, and the engine would jump a couple hundred rpm.

Might try changing the solenoid for TCC........ No idea if it will actually change anything though.

That would make some sense since it’s not slipping all the time. I’ll look into that, next. Thank you.
