Question '96 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 engine P0118 - which sensor?

Hi. I've got two codes that popped up on a '96 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 2WD truck - the 1st code is a P0118. If the wire and connections are intact on the temperature sensor, which sensor needs to be replaced - is it the one wire sensor of the two wire sensor?

I'm also getting a code P0505 that seems to be pointing to a sometimey IAC unit, which I plan to replace, along with replacing the throttle body with a clean, newly ported throttle body. Any other things I need to check regarding this code?

That would be the two wire sensor.

For the P0505, verify you have 12 volts on TWO of the wires in the IAC connector...... other two should go to ground.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check the two wire temperature sensor and it's connections, along with verifying a consistent 12 volts on two of the IAC wires.

Just to follow-up, I went ahead and replaced both temperature sensors (1 wire & 2 wire) since the truck is almost 30 years old, plus I had to drain the coolant from the radiator and the plastic around each sensor had cracked up from age/heat cycles. I also replaced the IAC unit with OE one from another throttle body. Cleared the codes and drove the truck to get a front end alignment and no more check engine light or codes. Truck has 325,000 plus and runs/drives like new.

Thanks again for the help.

That's pretty impressive. Not in the rust belt I take it?

Correct. A lifelong central Virginia 2WD extended cab long bed truck. Frame is as clean as a pin. Just completed a full front end rebuild with upper & lower poly bushings, 30MM poly sway bar bushings & end links, all new ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm, idler arm, performance rotors, new brake pads, braided flex brake lines with clean DOT4 fluid & front Bilstien shocks. Got the truck professionally aligned today and it drives & rides smooth as a baby's bottom... Completed lots of repair/resto work, but the antique 2nd gen truck is now good for many more miles ahead... The owner will be in heaven once he gets the truck back..
