If you get spark TO the distributor, but not OUT of the distributor, have a look at the rotor under the cap.
That's not a sensor issue......
I'd swap the coil to distributor wire with a known good one. The coil wire on a V-8 gets a pulse 8 times as often as an individual plug wire. You might just need a new set of plug wires. Especially if the old set is a cheapie.

I changed cap and rotor, now i have very little spark out of distributor, but a fair amount out of coil, and still wont start, doesn't even pop. I have watched the rotor turn and doesn't look like it is sluggish, but is it possible it sheered the pin thar holds the gear to the oil pump. I believe it is one piece though. I did ohm the coil and it is good, to the best of my knowledge reading a ohm meter.

Did the distributor move? Check the fuel sync and see if everything lines up. The motor needs to be at #1 cylinder TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke. The distubutor should look like this.

checked it and all is good. I have light spark out of distributor and it is not throwing any codes.
I went and bought a coil even though it ohmed good, just put it on and runs good.
Those can be pesky little stinkers to track down. Since I was a trainee 5 or 6 years ago. (Well.......decades. ) I've changed several coils but only ONE was failed. Generally I was looking for a hotter spark. Since they are solid state, there isn't much to fail.
