Replacement headlight assy quality.
Any recommendations on replacement headlight housings for a second gen 2001 base model? Dot legal is job#1 . I would like to see at night and mine are both leaking and clouded. Stay well.
Try CarID. https://www.carid.com/2001-dodge-ram...%5D%5B%5D=1500
Whatever you get, get a tube of clear silicone and go around all the seams with it.

I got mine from AM-autoparts.com. Simple stock replacements. Twice...... First set on my 96, still looked brand new when I sold it 8 years later. Current set on my 98 have been on there since shortly after I bought it, and they still look brand new.
I bought a set of sport headlights (with two bulbs per headlight) from RockAuto. They were insurance company replacement certified (CAPA certified, I believe). I also purchased a relayed headlight harness to keep the stock headlight switch from failing again by pulling headlight current from the battery. The two bulbs per headlight sport setup definitely puts out more light at night. I did have to trim some metal off the fender behind the headlight for it to fit, as the sport headlight is a deeper fit in the headlight bucket area.

That's likely. My truck is a '96. I had no choice but to do some trim work in the headlight mounting area.

My '96 had new lights when I got it. That's been about 5 years ago and I think they came from AM-auto.
Yep, if you really care get CAPA cert. It's your best chance of getting something close to factory standards. I understand "factory standards" were arguably not impressive, but in the aftermarket the only other option is WORSE -- unless you're spending a grand or more for something truly high zoot (generic projectors on Amazon marketed to teenagers do not qualify)
