Default 2000 5.2, fuel gauge

Sorry to make another thread so soon but this is my first priority, above my comedy power windows.

The previous owner warned me that the fuel gauge was broken. I filled the tank before I drove home but the gauge only got as far as the second notch.

When I do a gauge test, it does not perform properly, here's a video:

Is it simply a case of replacing the instrument cluster? I'm hoping this means I won't have to drop the tank, as this being the UK there is heavy rain nonstop for at least another week.

Thank you as always.

Yeah, I do believe that is a cluster issue, not necessarily the sending unit. I think mileage is stored in the cluster though..... depends on the year, I think.....

The older dashes you can take any of the gauges out and replace them. Have to take apart the two halves of the cluster and they are held in with screws on the back. This may be easier than trying to change mileage on a different dash. That is assuming the gauge itself is the issue. Yours should be a can bus dash so it may be a little different. If they store the mileage in the BCM then you can swap the whole cluster.

Is there a way to be sure?

Cluster tested showed you it is indeed the gauge that is the issue. Everything else moved in steps, gas gauge didn't move till the last step. It should have gone full sweep, it did not..... It *might* just be stuck..... I do believe the PCM knows the fuel level, and tells the cluster what to display, so, checking to see what the pcm is getting from the gas tank, would be an interesting bit of info.

So for my next question, could I just swap the fuel needle motor over from another gauge cluster, as long as it's for a 26 gallon truck? Or would it be easier to swap a complete cluster?

Fuel tank capacity does not matter, any 2000/2001 actuator should work. No idea how easy it is to swap it, and you'll probably have to get a complete cluster anyways.
