Since it is a 4x4, you will need gears for both front and rear. Since it is a 1500, you rear end is a Chrysler 9.25. The front is a Dana 44. Stock gear ratio is 3.55, unless you have an Off-Road edition, in which case it could be 3.92 or 4.10.
A really good place for gears is Randy's Ring and Pinion. http://www.ringpinion.com/

Well i hate to say it but I think my rearend is goin out, when i am in 3rd gear at 35 mph and shift to 4th, it starts humming, and my buddies truck does the same thing and his finally went out today(we think it is the rearend). If I go looking for gears and the stuff I need, what exactly is it that I need? Its 318,95,1500, and 2wd

Just to clearify 3.92 is an option on non Off-Road models too
Call the dealer and give them your VIN, just tell them you want to know what your gear ratio is, they'll be able to tell you.
dodge_boy31807: since you have a 4x2 you only obviously need gears for the back. Same axle, Chrysler 9.25. If its humming its probably the bearings, so if your gonna do gears make sure to get the Master Install Kit. Comes with new seals, bearings, and everything you need. Even if your keeping your current gears you just need the Master Install Kit to replace the bearings and seals![Smile](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
http://www.drivetraindepot.com/ is a pretty good site also

ok if your going to get gears. dont buy genuine gear. they suck. get yukons or richmond gear. also unless your running 35s or 38 in tires. your going to be way over geared.
