antenna for newbie
First off I cannot figure why I have not found this site earlier. Could spend hours here.
Here is the issue. Just recently lost reception with the stock stereo. Checked the cable and antenna connection and it seems fine. Antenna seems fine attached to the base. Question is how does one pull the stereo w/out ripping out the dash. Or do I need a new antenna. Any help greatly appreciated.

just pop the dash bezel off of the dash and it unscrews with 4 screws... slides out and check your connection in the back.. although highley unlikley that the antenna connector came disconnected on its own...worth a shot though
Yeah, what shott said. If the antenna is connected, check to make sure it isn't rubbed through on a metal part and grounding out. If antenna and parts seem to be ok, you might have a radio that went bad.....
Stock Stereo!! I didn't think anyone used them still, if its bad I got one I sell you I could use a new Pioneer J/K. Like racinfan said make sure it has not rubbed though anywhere. Oh yeah and Welcome to DF pk!!!
So how does one pop the dash bezel w/out breaking anything.
Stock stereo....first vehicle i've had for ten years that has never had the stereo stolen...plus I'm getting cheap in my old age.

Hey I still use the stock stereo. Well HU anyway haha. I never thought I'd be using the stock stereo but I like the steering wheel controls and don't want to spend $70 on an adapter to make them work with an aftermarket one and I also like the stock look in this truck. This is my only vehicle that still has a stock stereo and the reason was because I wasn't going to drive it that often when I got it it was going to be a tow rig or for when I needed to go in mud or snow so I didn't want to waste the money for something I wouldn't hear that often. Well since then I like it so much it's turned more into a DD and I have been thinking a lot about upgrading recently. The stock stereo sounds decent with a good sub but still not that great.

I have a 97, so its the same interior style you have. Open up the cup holder, theres 2 screws holding it on. Take those 2 screws off then slide the cup holder out. Now open up the ash tray, also 2 screws holding it on. Take them off and slide the ash tray out. Now just slowly pull the whole dash peice off slowly. It comes off pretty easy in my experiances so you shouldn't be to worried about breaking it.
Also it gets kinda tight around the steering wheel, so if you have an auto trans it comes out really easy if you put the gear selecter into 1st gear.
