Forgot to say that it connects right to the plastic piece in the valve cover. Makes for a very simple install.

Yeah, that's the little one I thought about putting on the breather inlet on the airbox. (decided against that) That deal ought to work also - the only problem I could see would be that oil might pool at the bottom of that filter and drip out or clog the filter faster than the big one I have....don't know for sure, guess we'll find out.

Shott - you have an interesting idea there. I thought about it too - cause on race motors there is a breather like mine on both sides. High horsepower motors like the 800hp ones in Dirt Late Models run a stainless braided vacuum line from the breather to the header collector on each side to pull the nasty air out. I don't think we have to worry about that - don't know about the lack of a pcv valve causing a cel either. I guess someone will have to try it. I would, but with my new program it would be hard to tell If I gained anything.......

Shott, the size you need is a 1" base on the filter. it should be plastic or metal since it's going into a rubber grommit.

Ryans590 we're talking about the breather hose that goes from the passenger side valve cover to the intake tube/air hat that sits on the TB... I've noticed that my truck runs better when I open that up and plug the intake side of the tube. I started this thread originally to help Shott figure out why his truck gets such crappy gas milage and it kinda opened this up (breather tube conversation).

the filter i'm gonna put on the breather is going to be a K&N since they are washable. i think a paper one will work to start but it'll have to be swapped out from time to time as it gets clogged w/dirt & oil.

Steve and Shott - I found a breather filter today at Autozone, Spectre part# 42859 $13 Plugs right in to the grommet.

Shott - here's the part number for you from A-zone....I would think all of them would have the same stuff - but maybe not. the local ones had several different sizes and kinds on the shelf (showroom floor)

i'd just pop off the hose and see how it runs for you (whoever wants to do it) and then if you still want the breather filter, then order a K&N one.

Just got back from camping... drove about 375 miles or so and on the 1st fillup averaged over 14 mpg, hiway and mtns. went over 2 "summits" as they call them, both around 1800' from sea level. Truck ran pretty good and even pulled on one of the summits on OD... gaining speed by the time we reached the top... increased about 3~5 mph.

Camping was awesome... had a nice fire going, no clouds and mild temps (low's around the low 40's). the dogs water bowl didnt freeze so it's all good! found out that we couldnt take him on the trail so we headed down to the beach this morning. went to 2 beaches and both had dog restrictions... [:@] finally the last beach was dog friendly... we let Louie have his way with a 30' (rope) limit. this was his 1st time to the beach and it was pretty damn funny... on the way back to the truck we were walking along the shore with the waves crashing down and he decides it's time for a #2... right as the waves rolled in... when the wife and I were done laughing she asked "ok, what's the cleanup protocall with that one?" as the mess is floating out to sea... damn funny! he didnt even stop as the waves were rolling in.

anyway, that was worth sharing! We took a couple of pics of the camp site & the Ram (of course) and i'll post them when i get them back (35mm still )
