Default Auto Trans Questions

Pardon my ignorance about auto trans, but if I replace the "valve body" in my transmission, is this where the clutches/plates are? Or does this just regulate the fluid/pressure? I recently did a fluid/filter change, being careful to put DOT3 fluid back in. It's been about a month today since the fluid/filter change. My "check engine" light came on and it's stuck in 2nd gear. Haven't checked the codes yet, it just happened about an hour ago.

The truck has numerous performance parts on it and the engine is in excellent condition, I was considering putting a hi-perf transmission in it anyways from apsprecision.

I've heard this could be the governor solenoid or something else cheaply fixalble or if I should just replace the valve body and it might correct.

hope you mean atf+3 fluid, assuming your truck is a 2000 or older. atf+4 is the best foe all year rams

If it's stuck in 2nd gear, I would say that it is in "limp mode" so you can at least drive it somewhere to get it fixed. Bad....Very Bad.........[sm=alcoholic.gif][sm=bangbang.gif][sm=boohoo.gif]

The valve body controls the fluid flow and shifting action. The clutches and pump are what burns up inside the tranny case when it goes bad. Replacing the valve body will not help you unless you rebuild the whole thing and replace the converter. You should have used ATF+4 fluid when you replaced it.

Ok, the ATF 3 should have been OK for yours. I still think you have massive internal problems...was the fluid you drained out dark colored? How many miles on the truck?

Took it to Nat'l Transmission yesterday. It was the governor solenoid and transducer. A $400 repair but I'm just glad the tranny wasn't trashed...

Thanks for the info/responses guys.
