Default Instrument cluster question

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 (5.2 with a 5-speed). For whatever reason, when I bought the truck it came with a diesel cluster in it!! Here is a pic of what the cluster looks like... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/dodge...QQcmdZViewItem . Now my question is can I just change it out with a GAUGE OVERLAY like this one ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT ) or do I have to buy a whole new cluster like this one ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT ) and then buy some new white face gauges to go onto the new cluster? Is it possible that the cluster in my truck is the gasoline cluster with just a diesel overlay or do you think it is a diesel cluster? thanks!! Sorry for the confusion.

You should have no problem changing them out, and i don't think that its and over lay.

Do you think this cluster would work? The guys make mention of a '98, but it looks the same as mine.

I would use at least a 99' and up gauge. Preferrably a 2001 just like your truck. the 99-01 guages are pretty simular but i know that some of the lights are put in different places such as the cruise control indicator light. In an 01 the cruise indicator light comes on displayed under the mileage. In a 99 the cruise light comes on elswhere. Don't get me wrong, a 99 would probably work just fine if everything hooks up correctly, but I would find an 01 guage just to be safe.

im sure its all the same connections. theres just two long plugs under there. so im guessing you have no clue as to what the actual mileage is on your truck.

it says 85000. Should that not be correct? does the computer not hold the information on mileage and simply relay that information to the screen? it should not matter how many miles are on the cluster does it?? Maybe i am wrong....

thinking youd have to take it to the dealer ... they are the only licensed entity that holds a machine that is made to change mileage on a computerized odometer... unless the PCM changes it automatically but almost postive it doesnt... they have that machine just for the purpose... if im wrong guys..slap me

and i think is a federal offense to sell or deal a car with the incorect mileage reading on the odometer... so its seriously something youd have to fix
