I had actual straight pipes on my truck, no cats, no mufflers, nothing. And I didn't like the way it sounded. Goin into town, in a 35 mph zone, I would have to dog my truck in 5th gear just so I wouldn't make any noise. I would say not to go actual straight pipes, doesn't sound good and you will regret it if you try. I only have two mufflers on mine, no cats, and its true dual, I really like the sounds of it.

ok ill clarify- any vehicle 10 years or older (96) doesnt have to pass emissions inspections= no cats. so its not every vehicle just decade old ones
lol, thats not a very smart law... most of the cars are fine until they are about 8~10 years old... by that time the cats are shot, o2's are going dead etc... Here in CA it's 25 years. The good thing is most of the crap that was built in the late 70's and early 80's is already in the junk yards... leaving the cleaner burning motors of the late 80's & early 90's and up on the road...

dont forget you do need an "x" pipe or crossover pipe, to equalize the back pressures and ti DOES make more power that way...

The cat does not attribute to how much fuel you use(if properly working). The cat is there to burn excess emissions so that it is cleaner going into the atmosphere. The fuel issue would come about with the O2 sensor in your downtubes are bad. The one in the cat only detects if your cat is working.

I have a 77 Chevrolet that was never required to have cats. I get just as good gas mileage as some of these Rams here in the forum. By the way I have 410 horses at the wheels.

thats ironic... the nation and the world is in a gas crisis along with a polution crisis and your state says its ok to have no cats...

i say to keep the cats...do everyone a favor ...
