It seems that all second gens share the same engines and bolt configurations on the bellhousing. I'd say it definatly do-able but you may run into small changes such as sensor connectors or wire colours as they change sometimes with engine revisions. Probably easier if you're swapping in the same size engine. I could be wrong but this has been my experience with Mopars.

A 360 is a 360. Bolts are good. Only thing you need to check are periffials, but if you use your old intake you should be good with exception of block sensors. If you get a haynes manual, it will show what the 1997 came with, and what the replacement engine came with. Then, say you bought a 2001 engine, you will have to do further research to see if the newer sensors will send the proper signal to your older computer.

Sorry so vague. Hope this helps some.

Not true. The V10 and Diesel motors have a pattern that's different from the 318/360 pattern. The v6 pattern might be different as well. I'm not sure, as I've never really researched or read about the v6 Rams. I've never even seen one in person [>:]

But in this situation, you should be fine as far as things bolting up.

What else do you exactly want to know?

If you want direct plug n play, 96 & 97 are your best years. Things changed a lot in 98 as far as engine control & electronics, and 94 & 95 seem to be bastard years where they were trying different things with their motors. 94/95 should work but there MIGHT be some issues.
