wont start
I'm looking to buy a 96 ram for 3500.Nice looking truck. The guy drove to the store other weekend and when left store it wouldn't start. He has had mechanics who he only talked to about say it may be computer or crankshaft sensor.
I'm Going today to look myself.I'm thinking from what they are saying and what i read here it will be the crankshaft sensor or wire associate with it.They tell me it gets fuel and all it does is turn over .
I dont know if they actually checked for spark.Truck ran fine until it done this.Any insight would be helpfull.

Actually i got there and truck crank fine.Had some trouble with idle .But i clean and tighten battery drove truck home.About 90 miles.
It never missed a lick.Seems i got a pretty good deal now.Only 118k miles.

Guess im not totally lucky. It died going down road.Ran real rough and couldnt idle at normal had to keep foot on gas.Under hood i'm wiggling wires then the problem goes away. Then it may happen again.
I'm going to keep wiggling until i can narrow something down.

maybe it's the fuel pump, symptoms sound very similar to when my pump went bad. The truck can still get gas to the engine but if the pressure isn't right then there wont be enough fuel to run properly.
If its not idleing right its probably your IAC. Its probably not gonna be a fuel pump problem because those tend to happen at high RPM when its under high demand.
The IAC is located on the back of the throtle body. Held on with two bolts and some wires. Take it off and clean it, along with taking the TB off and cleaning it.
You need to check the codes by following the link posted above. Not all codes will set the CE light. Tell us what you find!

when i picked truck up from the guy it had no coeds. When it died on me going down road gave me code 11.
It is the main wire harness and then i kindof wigle down toward the ditrubtor or coil.I'm pretty sure it is a fualty wire somewhere.Just need to find which it is.

well code 11 means No Crank reference signal at PCM, No Distributor reference signal detected during engine cranking. Check the circuit between the distributor and PCM. check your wirring for any bare spots that might have rubed through check inside of loomed wires too check each wire one at a time they can be dard to find sometimes but its mostlikely a little spot whrer the sleathing has come off a whire and its grounding on something wen it gets bumped like wen you hit a bump or shut the door and wen you wiggle it it un shorts it till the next bump lol hope you find it they can be a pain in the a$$
