Default lighting placement

couple questions about lighting- first off i was wondering if anyone has mounted off roading lights somewhere on their truck without getting any sort of grill guard or anything. is it possible to attach the lights to teh grill of the truck?? i HATE the look of grill guards on my truck. some they look good on, but i just dont think they look good on my royal blue. also my second question is if i had two 55 watt lights, would my regular battery be enough to support them? or would i need a stronger or a second battery? and finally; i know nothing about the electrical systems on vehicles- do most autoparts stores have the capability to hook these up for me?

if you get some kc slim lights (google em im shure youll find some i dont have a site off hand) they shoul fit on your bumper the with the rams its hard to put anything on the bumber because of the grill. those are 130 watt lights and unles your batt is shot or your alt is crap your truck will run em fine it wont even notice 2 55 watt lights i have 2 150 watt (i had 4 150 watt for a while), 2 130 watt and quad beam lights and ran it off 1 bat for a long time (i did out in a secend batt just to help out but it wassent nessary. you can hook em up your self too its easy wate till tonight and ill post a wireing diagram or so a search on "wirring to park lights" i think that was the thred i posetd it on

thanx- big help especially with the wiring diagram. is there a way to test my alternator? i need a new battery anyways so ill get it before i get the lights, but im not sure about the alternator? and what you said about the 55 watts makes me wonder if their even worth it? are they still good enough for off roading? or do i need 130-150 watts?

I had 2 55 watts and 2 130 watts on my old explorer and stock battery and alternator. no problems. The 55's I used the most because they put out a nice wide beam where the 130's put out a skinny beam.

the 55 watt are ok.. it up to you how bright you want them obvuasley the 130watt will be brighter than the 55 watt but you also half to look at the candle power ratting to see how bright they will auchually be. also like turbo_bird sed it depends on the beam you want too i would sugest going to your local truck parts store they usally have the lights they sell on display so you can see how bright they are and what the beam is like. so no you dont need 130,150 watt lights but they will be brighter but also more expensive. make shure you go with a stainless steel housing too crome /painted will rust over time and plactic will crack and if there only for 55 watt bulbs and you put in 130's you can melt them. my susgestion is the KCL p/n110 check out http://www.jdrcustom.com/Truck_Lights.html they have a good listing of lights the slimline fit nice on the rams and there bright too good for driving or offroading. as for your alt if you dont think there is anything wrong with it chances are its fine look at your volt meeter on tour dash is its around 14 you should be fine if you really want it checked you can go to a shop and have it tested.

here is that wirring diagram the indacator light just tells you that the switch is on and is not nessaryso the part that is in the box in the top right you can ignor if you dont wanna but in the indacator, some switches come with lights bult in too

Hey Muddy.....

This is what you want, the CARR LIGHT WING, I just ordered one... check it out.
You DONT want to mount the lights to the bumper because they will get whacked by the hood when you open it.

thats kinda cool. so it just bolts onto your license plate cover? hm. interesting. yea i wasnt thinking about puttin the lights where theyd get hit by hood. one of my friends had that problem on a chevy, and if your just careful about where you mount them then it will be fine. im definately gonna consider that wing though, thanx for the link
