CEL light
Depends do you have a digital odometer or a dial. If you have a digital turn your key on, off, on off, then on again the code should come up on the odometer. If you have the dial the ce light will flash in sequence for the code. Others are better to tell you how to read the flashes, I have the dial so I just bought myself a reader but you can go to Autozone and get codes read from them. But for either the digital or the dial you just turn the key thats the only way I know how to do it yourself w/o a reader.
what year is it?
97 and under go to this site http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/pcm_fault_code.htm
99 and up Turn the engine off, then turn the key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON without starting the engine. on your odometer it will say PXXXX (X represenrs numbers) then go to this site and look up the code http://www.obdii.com/codes_request.asp
if you have a 98 your screwed like me you half to use a code reader

Why??
As far as the link for 97 and under I believe it's wrong those are for OBDI vehicles. 96 and 97 rams are OBDII compliant that is way they have emmisions testing done with their inspections. But as I said there are others who can give better tech info. Steve is the man for 2Gen rams.
they disabled access to the codes on the 98 models. it carried over to early 99 models as well. But there have been some 99 owners that have been able to check their codes. 00/01/02hd owners are able to check their codes via the key/odometer method as well.
I've been able to check codes on my '99 on my odometer via the key turn steps mentioned above.

im pritty shure its right it and works on the 96/97s too
if you have an O2 sensor before and after the cat the numbers have to be in a certain tolerance of what the emissions should be of each other. since you have gutted your cat then the second sensor is reading the same as the first and making your check engine light come on. i think you can get some sensors that will simulate a cat though
