Default 4x4 problem

When i put my truck into 4 hi it engages fine work fine sounds fine, but when i put it back into 2 it does 1 of 2 things. 1. The 4wd light goes off but stays in 4hi 2. It doesnt do anything and the light stays on. I have found that if I put the truck in 2wd and back up a bit it will come out of 4wd. I was jst wondering if anyone knew what it could possibly be?

98 sport 5.2 I can look at wat kind of gears I got if you guys need me to. Thanx

Yeah, either stop or stop and back up a bit. I do that anyway because I'm used to having lockouts on all my other trucks before. The reason is that you still have enough tension from the forward motion to keep the axle "locked in" until you stop or reverse to release the tension. You don't have a problem...

the way i get outta 4 is either 1 of two ways, while cruising disengages and let of for a bit till u hear the front end disengage, or while at a stop light put it back in 2 and toss it in reverse then back in drive and tada,
